The Team

Empower Physical Rehabilitation was established in 2007 by Michael and Karen Landry. Empower is a multidisciplinary clinic offering Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Hand Therapy, Massage Therapy and Workplace Solutions. Our team of experienced health professionals is dedicated to offering the best possible patient experience. We assess the individual needs of our clientele and establish plans of care specifically designed to meet their personal goals. 



Empower Physical Rehabilitation is located in Lower Sackville and has served the needs of thousands in the surrounding areas of the Halifax Regional Municipality. Empower is pleased to treat many types of musculoskeletal/orthopaedic injuries including low back pain, neck strain, shoulder injuries, tendinitis, hip/knee injuries, hand injuries, sprains, strains and post operative conditions. We are an approved provider for WCB, Medavie Blue Cross, DVA, RCMP, Canadian Forces and many other insurance companies.



Empower treats workplace injuries, sports injuries, motor vehicle accident injuries, degenerative/arthritic conditions among many more. The team at Empower prides themselves on giving their clientele strategies to help themselves, you know, EMPOWERing them. Empower welcomes all ages and is pleased to offer physiotherapy services in both English and French.

Mike Landry,

Physiotherapist

Michael is a Dalhousie University graduate and has been actively practicing physiotherapy since 1988. Prior to opening emPOWER Physical Rehabilitation, Michael managed physiotherapy clinics in Dartmouth and Lower Sackville. He started his career in Saint John, New Brunswick where he practiced for nine years.



Michael’s background lies in orthopaedic/sports physiotherapy and industrial rehabilitation. He worked as a chief physiotherapist at Skate Canada and as a consultant with the former AHL Saint John Flames hockey club. He has extensive training in functional capacity assessments, ergonomic evaluations, work conditioning, golf injury rehab, rehabilitative exercise and numerous courses in manual therapy. He believes in an active approach to rehabilitation and empowering his clients with the knowledge to help them maximize their recovery. Michael enjoys hockey, skiing, golf and sailing. He has coached minor hockey and soccer since 2000. Michael lives in the HRM with his wife Karen and two children Mallory and Daniel.

Karen Landry,

Occupational Therapist

Karen has practiced as an Occupational Therapist since 1985 after graduating with a BScOT in the first occupational therapy class from Dalhousie University. She also received her MSc (Rehabilitation Research -Physiotherapy) in 2010, researching the area of “hand injuries and return to work”. Several areas of practice have shaped her practice experience including Geriatrics, acute Rehabilitation, Rheumatology and Disability Case Management. Her preferred area of practice is along the spectrum of hand and upper extremity rehabilitation which she continues to offer now exclusively at Empower Physical Rehabilitation. Advocating for and promoting one’s profession has been a strong priority for her professional life and Karen has recently completed a 3-year term as President of the Canadian Society of Hand Therapists, and continues to be an active member of the Continuing Competency Committee for the College of Occupational Therapists of Nova Scotia. Karen has also held numerous contract positions with the School of Occupational Therapy since 1998 in both teaching and administrative capacities. She currently divides her work time between her Hand Therapy practice, and the School of Occupational Therapy as a Lecturer for the MSc(OT) program.

Tyler Ravlo,

Physiotherapist

Tyler Ravlo graduated from Dalhousie University in 2010 with his MScPT. Prior to attending Physiotherapy School, Tyler attended The University of Southern Maine where he received his BSc in Exercise Physiology while playing varsity hockey. He has an interest in sports/orthopaedic physiotherapy and is working his way through the orthopaedic manual therapy levels. Originally from Yarmouth, Tyler now resides in Halifax and enjoys coaching, golfing, playing hockey and soccer.



Tyler is pleased to have joined the emPOWER team and looks forward to helping his clients achieve their rehabilitation goals.

Lorraine Breau-Thompson,

Physiotherapist

Lorraine graduated from Dalhousie University in 1991 with a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy. She went on to complete her Intermediate Exams in Orthopaedic and Manipulative Therapy in 1996. Since that time, Lorraine has continued her professional development in manual therapy, examination and treatment of muscle imbalances and various other orthopaedic and sports related courses.


Lorraine enjoys her chosen profession as she likes helping people of all ages return to their maximum function. She also likes running and spending time with her family. Lorraine is fluent in French and English.

Tracie Lindsay,

RMT

Tracie has worked exclusively in the Rehabilitation setting since her graduation from the Northumberland College of Massage Therapy in 1999. Her interests include Swedish and Sport massage. She has extensive experience in treating injuries related to motor vehicle accidents, work related injuries and elite atheletes, many of whom compete on an international level. She prides herself in helping her clients resume their regular work and leisure activities with improved mobility and function.


Her interests are playing soccer and volleyball. She now resides in the Springfield Lake area with her husband Ryan and their two boys, William and Benjamin.

Jeremy Sprague,

RMT

Jeremy was born and raised in Lower Sackville and a graduate from the Canadian College of Massage and Hydrotherapy. He is certified in cupping, and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization (I.A.S.T.M.). Jeremy also has a keen interest in helping people with respiratory issues like C.O.P.D. and asthma, trades people, and people suffering from chronic stress.

With general Swedish massage, myofascial release, and low impact joint mobilizations he has hands that can help!

On his days off, Jeremy enjoys cycling, weight lifting, kayaking and hiking. He lives in the Lower Sackville area with his fiancé.





Lauren Stathakis,

Occupational Therapist

Lauren graduated from Dalhousie University in 2016 with her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy, having also attended Dalhousie for her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology just prior. Since, she has been working as an occupational therapist in rehabilitation, completing assessment and intervention for a wide array of musculoskeletal, concussion, and mental health injuries/conditions as well as workplace assessments and return to work rehabilitation. Lauren has always been involved in furthering her education and skill set through additional training in a variety of treatment and assessment approaches to help her client’s return to function and back to the things they love most. In addition, Lauren has a passion for teaching and coaching other aspiring occupational therapists and you will often find her as a teaching assistant/tutor at the Dalhousie School of Occupational Therapy. 

 

Lauren resides with her family in Lower Sackville and loves spending time exploring her home province of Nova Scotia with her husband Alex and two dogs Sully and Otis. You will often find her scouring the ever-growing establishments and experiences in the city, playing tennis, golfing, yoga, paddling on the lake, and overall enjoying time with friends and family.
